Who are we?

The Say No to Harrington group is made up of local residents who oppose Nuon Renewables Ltd’s plans to build a wind farm, consisting of seven 125 metre high wind turbines, on most of the land between the Brampton Valley way north of Draughton Crossing, and the old Harrington airfield.
The current committee is made up of representatives from Maidwell, Draughton and Harrington who are leading a campaign to ensure that the planning application made by Nuon Renewables is rejected.

What are we doing?

We are currently exploring all possible issues which might provide legitimate reasons within the planning laws and guidelines for objecting to the planning application.  This includes contacting all those connected historically to the old Harrington airfield; nature and conservation groups; local bodies and so on, as well as doing a detailed study of the planning application and associated documentation (such as the Environmental Statement - a document of some 315 pages).

We want to gather the opinions of local residents regarding the impact of Nuon’s proposed wind farm on their quality of life, and to represent the interests of residents throughout consideration of the proposal by the District Council, thereby safeguarding those interests and protecting the community from the consequences of this proposed development.  To that end we have printed and distributed posters to draw attention to the campaign and arranged a public meeting to ensure that all residents are aware of the issues impacting on them.

Currently we are investigating the employment of independent specialists in relevant areas to obtain accurate data and expertise and we will produce an exhaustive, authoritative rebuttal of any planning application.  We have already taken advice from specialist counsel.  Clearly available funding will have an impact on what we can do.

We do need help with our campaign, so if you know about the environment, wildlife, planning, wind technologies, landscape or heritage, or if you have a skill that might be of use in our fight please contact us.

You can email the committee:

We would like to represent all the views of the community and if you have a contribution to make, something that will serve to inform our readers, you may do so in the posts section of the site.

We also need funding and any contribution you can make to our fighting fund will help.  We have already received several £500 donations, but any amount, however large or small will be very gratefully received.  Again please email the above address or phone 07768 573602 if you would like to give a donation, or can help in some other way, in particular if you have any information that might help us to defeat Nuon’s outrageous proposal for the wind farm development.
