The Harrington Airfield wind farm proposal is not an isolated instance of developments planned for the area east of the M1 along the A14 corridor.  In an area of approximately 17 x 20 miles there will be, if all planning applications are successful, some 113 wind turbines!  The map below (courtesy of Michael Benn) shows the sites.

  1. This is a truly scary map. Whilst I support the need for renewable energy, and wind power as part of that strategy, this graphic serves to support my view that we, who will be affected, are supposed to think only of our environmental need for renewable power, whilst the developers think only of the profit to be made with little or no regard for environmental issues.

Clearly not all of these proposals will come to fruition, but if only 50% are successful the rural landscape which is such a feature of this area will be decimated. Why, oh why, aren’t the proposals being limited to offshore/estuary developments? Oh yes, could it be because the profit margins won’t be so great?
